Hanoi University of Mining and Geology participated in CBIE 2024 Conference in Canada and visited Canadian Universities.

The delegation of the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, led by Professor Tran Thanh Hai - Rector of the University, took part in the annual Conference of Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE 2024) in Ottawa, Canada from November 03 – 06, 2024.

The CBIE 2024 conference gathered over 1300 participants from 50 countries and over 60 exhibitors who engaged in constructive 75 discussion sessions to exchange ideas on innovation, reorganization, and future of international education. The discussions included the management of scholarships, research and information services, and training and professional development programs for international teachers, based on the importance of the role of international education as the best means to enhance understanding between peoples, and develop sustainable political, cultural, and economic ties among countries.

In particular, the conference had a special session for Vietnam with the theme "Vietnam’s education sector insights and opportunities for collaboration" to provide insights into strategic initiatives and programs being prioritized by Vietnamese government and institutions to foster stronger ties with Canada. Through presentations and engaging dialogue, attendees will learn about key areas and opportunities for collaboration with Vietnam.

The event brought together U15 group (Canada’s top 15 research universities) and many prestigious Canadian universities. This was an opportunity for HUMG’s delegation to present an overview of the University as well as the internationalization strategy that the University is implementing, find new partners such as the University of Ottawa, Concordia University and Lakehead University and strengthen existing partnerships.

Also, during the business trip, the delegation of the HUMG visited Polytechnique Montréal and was welcomed by Dr. Jacqueline Wallace, Vice President, Communications, External Relations and International Affairs and Ms. Stéphanie Dion, Interim Director, Polytechnique Montréal International; together with representatives of Department of Civil, Geological and Mining Engineering; Department of Mathematical and Industrial Engineering; Department of Electrical Engineering. Both parties discussed the potentials for joint research and publication, the exchange and research internship programs, especially continuing to cooperate the SEED scholarship program.

A visit to Concordia University was paid to gain insights into Concordia and exploring synergistic opportunities for collaboration, and to identify potential areas of synergy and collaboration for our universities. The HUMG representatives had the opportunity to meet Mr. William Cheaib, Chief of Staff of the President and Associate VP International; professors and experts in the fields of geology, geography and environment. In particular, the delegates took a tour to the Next Generation Cities Institute guided by Dr. Michael Bossert, Manager, Strategy, Innovation and Outreach to learn about the Institute's research fields, thereby exchanging opportunities for cooperation in the fields of construction, space, information technology and environment. The visit to Concordia University was a chance to explore Concordia’s innovative approaches in preparing highly skilled professionals and to learn about the programs and priorities of both universities, mainly in the area of sustainability.
