ASEAN++ is an international event with series of international meeting and scientific conferences with the participation of representatives in mining education of ASEAN countries and Australia, Japan, Germany and Spain. This year ASEAN ++ 2014 is organized for the first time in Viet Nam by Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, in collaboration with Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment, and University of Science and Technology (Hochiminh City). ASEAN++ 2014 is organized in Vung Tau from 19th to 23rd October 2014, including:
- Regional Meeting of Society of Mining Professors (19, 20 October, 2014)
- Fieldtrip: MICCO and Thuan Lap Quarry Mine (21 October, 2014)
- International Conference of Advances in Mining and Tunneling - ICAMT 2014 (22 October, 2014)
- International Conference on Earth Resources Technology - ICERT 2014, (23 October, 2014)
Almost 400 scientists, professors and academic staff, and officials participated in the event, who are representatives from Ministry of Natural Resources and Enviroment, Viet Nam National Coal - Mineral Industry Holdings Corporation Limited (Vinacomin), Petro Vietnam (PVN), Dong Bac Corporation and other mining companies, industrial explosives manufacturers, cement companies, research institutes and universities.

International guests are from Germany (THGA Bochum, Ruhr Bochum University, RWTH Aachen, TU Freiber, RAME project), Japan (Hokkaido University, Kyushu University), Russia (National Mining Institute MISIS), Span (University of Hueva), Thailand (Chualongkorn University, Chiang Mai University), Australia (University of New South Wales) etc.
On 19 October, Prof. Tran Thanh Hai, Vice Rector of HUMG, delivered the Welcome speech of the Regional meeting of Society of Mining Professors (SOMP). 15 presentations and discussion sessions are giving the audience information of SOMP in 2014 and activities of 2015. Discussion focused on new research fields of mining, oil and gas, geology, capacity building, and knowledge transfer for the sustainable development of the mining industry.

During the meeting, HUMG welcomed Chiang Mai University, led by Prof. Nat Vonayos, Vice Rector and Dean of Engineering Faculty in an official meeting for better collaboration between the two universities in the forthcoming years.

On 20 October, in frame of the SOMP Regional meeting, the World Federation of Engineering Organization facilitated the panel discussion on Improvement of partnerships for the sustainable development of the mining industry. The main topic of the discussion is about optimization of water usage in mining, attracting the partipation of representatives of extractives companies, NGOs and authorities.

On 22 October, the 3rd International Conference on Advances in Mining and Tunnelling ICAMT 2014 attracted almost 200 participants from represenatives of authorities, international and national companies and organizations. Prof. Le Hai An, Rector of HUMG, delivered the opening speech and the keynote speech of oil and gas exploration and exploitation. Other 36 presentations were delivered in 6 different scientific sessions by speakers from North America, Asia, Australia and Europe.
