Memorandum of Understanding signing for comprehensive cooperation of the 7 leading technical universities in Vietnam

Hanoi 22nd January 2021: 07 leading technical universities in Vietnam including Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), Da Nang University of Science and Technology (DUT), Ho Chi Minh City National University - University of Science and Technology, Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG), University of Transport and Communications (UTC), Thuy Loi University (TLU), National University of Civil Engineering (NUCE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding for comprehensive cooperation which focuses on enrollment, education and training, scientific research, technology transfer, education quality assurance and accreditation, organizing conferences and seminars, developing international cooperation, and communication. This cooperation initiative is supported by the Ministry of Education and Training.

This cooperation will open up many opportunities for deeper, stronger, more comprehensive connection, positively contributing to the development and growth of each institution in the future. Six targets of cooperation of Group 7 are:

1. Admissions: exchanging and sharing experiences in enrollment and career orientation; developing joint training programs and courses for joint enrollment and training; establishing admissions group to recognize the result of entrance examination of each univerisity;

2. Education and Training: Sharing experiences and cooperate in developing common undergraduate and master training programs, specialized for engineering fields; supporting to develop capacity building in each institution; developing the model of co-supervising graduation thesis and dissertations; sharing library resources database.  

3. Quality Assurance (QA) and Accreditation: Cooperating on self-assessment, peer-to-peer assessment to improve the training quality; sharing experiences in national and international accreditation; using benchmarking to identify core strengths and main points and improve the QA of each institution.

4. Scientific Research and Technology Transfer: Developing and conducting interdisciplinary and interinstitutional research projects; jointly exploiting specific laboratory facilities; exchanging researchers; supporting to establish start-ups and spin-off companies on the basis of joint researches; organizing joint activities relating to entrepreuships and leaderships for students; building a common startup ecosystem among the Universities; co-publishing scientific papers, particularly in the fields of AI, digital technology, new materials, energy security, economic circulation by sharing research information and experiences.

5. International Cooperation: jointly organizing international scientific conferences; developing international partnership networks and consortiums in the common fields of expertise; sharing experiences in applying new teaching technology and digital transformation initiatives in teaching and training; jointly managing common resources in the digital environment.

6. Communication: organizing events of brand promotion of Group 7 and joint activities; building a common media channel to publish promotion information of all university members; issuing the regulation of information administration among the group to ensure the security of information, copyright and intellectual property.

The cooperation of Group 7 bases voluntariness, equality, goodwill, consensus and mutual benefit to maintain mutual respect and reputation of each member.

The Vice Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son highly appreciated the cooperation initiative of the 7 technical universities and congratulated them on reaching the agreement. He expected this partnership not only to bring benefits to participating institutions, but also create a driving force for the entire technical education sector and the Higher Education system.

Earlier, on 27th of June 2020, 7 members in the group signed a joint declaration on development orientation of the engineering training programs. This was considered the first step of a pioneer direction to improve the quality of training programs. The development of common standards for engineering training programs is expected to meet the actual needs of the country, the region and worldwide.
