A short video reviewed Prof. Carsten Drebenstedt’s career achievements and contributions to Vietnam's education, mining industry in general and to HUMG in particular as the very first Honorary Professor of HUMG. In 2016, after many years of engagement with the Vietnamese mining industry, on the occasion of the 50th Jubilee of the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, VINACOMIN presented Prof. Drebenstedt a medal of Honorary Miner. In 2019, to tribute his achievement in education and research for Vietnam, the Ministry of Education and Training presented Prof. Drebenstedt the Award of Merit in recognition of his contribution to higher education of the country. To the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, he has been contributing significantly in education, scientific research and being a supporter for many collaborative activities of HUMG with national and international partners throughout the years. He is a supervisor of 4 Ph.D. students from HUMG who hold leading positions of the university and has given many lectures and talks at HUMG in the fields of mining, geo-technic and environment. Prof. Dr. Bui Xuan Nam – Vice Rector of HUMG is the first PhD student of Prof. Drebenstedt. With the mindset of motivating the young generation, Prof. Drebenstedt is also a sponsor for junior researchers of HUMG to participate in international conferences in Germany. In international conferences hosted by HUMG since 2008, Prof. Drebenstedt has been the co-chair of Organizing Committees, chair of Scientific Committees, and Keynote speaker. He is also a key member of the research group Innovations in Responsible and Sustainable Mining, and the Editorial Board of Journal of Mining and Earth Sciences of HUMG.

Prof. Carsten Drebenstedt was very emotional and thanked HUMG for this meaningful event. He expressed his pleasure to work with Vietnamese colleagues at HUMG in many fields, to see his Vietnamese students grow up and succeed in their careers, and to make a positive contribution to society, to education and training and to the mining industry of Vietnam.
