The project proposal was based on the analysis of the needs of partner universities and focuses on the curriculum development seeking to modernize and harmonize the HE systems in the field of geology according to Lisbon Strategy and Bologna process in Russian and Vietnamese Universities. An existing curricula has been updated and modernised to bring innovative practices in education training and networking.
The consortium consists of 9 universities from EU, Russia and Vietnam:
- Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg – Germany – Project Coordinator
- Università degli studi di Torino (Dip. Scienze della Terra) - Italy
- Montanuniversitaet Leoben - Austria
- Platov South-Russian State Polytechnic University (Novocherkassk Polytechnic Institute) - Russia
- North-Caucasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (State Technological University) - Russia
- National University of Science and Technology Moscow “MISIS” - Russia
- Ural State University of Mining – Russia
- Graduate University of Science and Technology (GUST) – Vietnam
- Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG) – Vietnam
Aims of the project:
- to promote modernization and internationalization by developing innovative institutional capacities of the HE in Russia and Vietnam;
- to support regional integration and interregional cooperation for providing better future opportunities for knowledge exchange;
- to support networking and cooperation among HEI and non-academic partners in EU, Russia and Vietnam;
- to raise attractiveness of geoscience education; Objectives of the project:
- to improve the quality of geology studies in Russian and Vietnamese universities for which a specific objectives would be further: 1) to develop new curriculum of the master program in geology focused on resources; 2) to enhance innovation capacities by updating laboratories and facilities for gaining practical skills.
- to raise the attractiveness of geoscience education among Partner Universities by establishing the winter school 'Young Geologist'.
- to establish multinational cooperation network in geology by developing web-based educational network.
During the three-year long life cycle of the project (10/2016-10/2019), the members of the consortium have created a strong partnership to build an educational network between EU, Russian and Vietnamese Universities aimed at the international recognition of the degree which was still not available in Russia or Vietnam.
To perform the objectives, 7 work packages have been planned and strictly implemented:
- WP 1: Preparation: a kick-off meeting where all consortium members discussed administrative and academic issues of the project: a Detailed Project Chart (chart including milestones and deliverables); Partner Agreements between Project Partners about obligations, decision making, financial sustainability, etc..
- WP 2: Development: this work package consists of following sub-contents:
Capacity building for Partner Country tutors: support capacity development at the partner universities and institutions by offering tailor made trainings; support the academic staff in developing the curricula for program (through tailor made trainings, which support curriculum development and development common descriptors (admission criteria, learning outcomes, teaching methods and forms of assessment).
Setting the laboratories in the RU-VN Universities: Within the framework of WP terms and time conditions of equipment’s delivery for creation laboratories in all RU&VN universities have been determined. As part of the WP, Teacher’s training on practical aspects of geologist preparation in University of Turin has been organized.
Development a web-based Education Network among institutions: an e-learning WEB portal (based on the OLAT platform) contains joint educational pull of video lectures, seminars, tests, and a medium for communication in chats, forums. Online courses for winter schools have been also developed on this platform.
Development of winter school “Young Geologist”.
Approbation of developed practical training course at RU&VN universities.
Capacity building for degree comparability between EU&RU, EU&VN , RU&VN Universities.
Working out the outcomes and feed-back from main stakeholders ofthe project.
- WP 3: Quality Plan: to ensure a routinely quality control and monitoring of the project , which includes QC&M on the university level - VN and RU University perform Internal Quality Control and Monitoring by establishing the Quality Evaluation Working Group (QEWG),Interuniversity Quality Control and Monitoring, QC&M by the EU Consortium members and External Quality Control and Monitoring provided by the Individual Experts from the EU, VN and RU.
- WP 4: Dissemination and Exploitation: to make all project outputs visible, attractive and accessible for the audience beyond the project consortium. Channels of dissemination: web site, conference, networking opportunities, fairs. Forms of dissemination: articles, leaflets, prospectus, handbook, interviews.
- WP 5: Management: to coordinate all activities and quality control of the project.
In the framework of MINERAL Project, the master program of Geology of HUMG has been modernized with a specialization in Petroleum geology that is pertinent to the development strategy of the university.
