Training of Trainers Workshop on Climate Change Adaptation through Geospatial Digital Data and Earth Observation

03/11/2024

Hanoi, October 8, 2024 - A significant Training of Trainers (T.o.T) workshop was successfully held at Hanoi University of Mining and Geology as part of the "Climate Change Adaptation through Geospatial Digital Data and Earth Observation (CADEO)" project. This workshop united experts and faculty from Vietnam and Europe to enhance teaching capacity for the application of advanced geospatial technology in climate change adaptation.

The primary goal of the workshop was to equip Vietnamese educators with essential geospatial and Earth observation knowledge to support climate adaptation efforts in the country. Led by European specialists, the T.o.T sessions covered key topics critical to understanding and applying advanced geospatial technology to address climate change challenges in Vietnam.

In this T.o.T workshop, experienced faculty members from Lund University (Sweden) and Politecnico di Milano (Italy) introduced the content and teaching materials for four courses developed by the project:

  • Geospatial Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI): Dr. Ludovico Biagi presented the application of AI in the geospatial domain, showcasing techniques for analyzing large raw geospatial datasets, especially those relevant to climate change.
  • Earth Observation Applications: Dr. Micael Runnström demonstrated how Earth observation tools can track environmental changes over time, providing critical data for climate change and environmental monitoring.
  • Digital Twin Earth: Dr. Daniele Oxoli discussed digital twin applications, illustrating how virtual simulations can predict environmental impacts and aid in resource planning.
  • Geospatial Web Applications: Prof. Ali Mansourian provided an introduction to developing web-based solutions for geospatial application.

The workshop offered faculty members hands-on experience in data analysis, mapping, and climate modeling. Participants practiced applying these techniques to real-world scenarios, building the skills needed to independently lead geospatial education and climate adaptation efforts within their institutions.

This T.o.T workshop represents a significant step forward in the CADEO project’s mission to build sustainable climate resilience in Vietnam through innovative geospatial education. By empowering Vietnamese universities to adopt these tools, the project strengthens the country’s capacity to effectively address climate challenges.
