HUMG and New Mexico Tech are developing a joint training program of Petroleum Engineering at tertiary level based on the training program of New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMIMT). The annual enrollment scale is about 25 students. Qualified graduates will be awarded a Bachelor’s of Science in Petroleum Engineering degree from NMIMT and HUMG will award a corresponding degree.

The joint training program begins from academic year 2020-2021 and lasts for five years, and then it can be extended according to the regulations of Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training. HUMG and NMIMT join in a 2 - phase training program. The phase 1 (the first 2 years) is conducted at HUMG. The phase 2 (the remaining 3 years) is conducted at NMIMT. The joint training program is based on NMIMT’s ABET - accredited undergraduate training program of Petroleum Engineering. Students attend on - campus training. HUMG lecturers take responsibility for 22 subjects (61 credits), using English as the language of instructions.

In addition to the required admission level of English, students will be provided with an intensive English course in the first semester at HUMG in order to ensure their English proficiency requirements before entering phase 2 at NMIMT. Students who have not met English requirement of NMIMT have to participate extra English courses although they have completed 61 credits. Students who have completed phase 1 and have met requirements (Cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and an IELTS score of at least 6.0 or a TOEFL score of 76 of higher) will continue with phase 2 at NMIMT.
