On May 28, 2021, the CUBE ASEAN consortium successfully organized its first kick-off meeting in the presence of all partners from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan.
Mainly managed by Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), the project is funded by the JICA Project for AUN/SEED-Net under the Collaborative Education Program (CEP), and aims to establish a sustainable ASEAN-Japan academic and industrial network by implementing various educational activities in geological engineering.
The consortium consists of four educational institutions and one government agency:
- Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Indonesia
- Kyoto University (Kyodai), Japan
- Chulalongkorn University (CU), Thailand
- Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG), Vietnam
- Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), Indonesia
During the kick-off meeting, all partners expressed their commitment to delivering several outputs, including Master’s degree courses in urban development and management, research collaborations in geo-resources, geological hazards, spatial and geological-based urban and regional development, applied geophysics, geology engineering, and the geo-environment in urban areas. A mobility program at Kyoto University, and international conferences and publications will also be implemented.
The meeting concluded with a productive discussion on the consortium’s planning strategies. AUN/SEED-Net congratulates all partners on the recruitment of three students from Cambodia, Indonesia, and the Philippines as well as launching a summer program at Kyoto University, and looks forward to seeing the future achievements of CUBE ASEAN.
