The 6th International Conference on Scientific-Research Cooperation between Viet Nam and Poland (Viet-Pol 2021) was successfully organized in Hanoi


On November 10, 2021, Hanoi University of Mining and Geology successfully organized the 6th International Conference on Scientific-Research Cooperation between Viet Nam and Poland (Viet-Pol 2021) in the form of a combination of online and on-site.

The International Conference on “Scientific-Research Cooperation between Viet Nam and Poland” (Pol-Viet/Viet-Pol), which is one of the initiatives of cooperation of Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG) and AGH University of Science and Technology, Krakow, Poland (AGH UST) was first organized in 2014 in Poland. Since then, the conference has been alternately held in Poland and Viet Nam to boost cooperation in training, scientific research, university-industry linkage between the two countries. The most recent Pol-Viet conference occurred in July 2019 in Poland to celebrate the 100th anniversary of AGH University of Science and Technology.

In 2021, the Viet-Pol Conference is an important activity in the series of events to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Hanoi University of Mining and Geology. Since 2014, the conferences have received the support of the Embassy of Poland in Viet Nam, the Embassy of Viet Nam in Poland, the Viet Nam - Poland Friendship Association, the media agencies and Polish and Vietnamese enterprises.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and international travel restrictions, Viet-Pol 2021 conference was held in a hybrid format. On-site conference was available for participants who are present in Viet Nam in accordance with the requirements of epidemic prevention and control. Online format was opened for all guests who are not able to attend on-site on MS-Teams.

Representatives of the leaders of AGH UST and HUMG attending the Conference were Professor Tadeusz Slomka – Former Rector of AGH UST, Professor Jerzy Lis – Rector of AGH UST, Ms. Marta Forys – Director of International Cooperation Department of AGH UST, Associate Professor Marek Borowski – Associate Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Resource Management of AGH UST, Associate Professor Tran Xuan Truong - Chairman of the University Council of HUMG, Professor Tran Thanh Hai – Rector of HUMG, Professor Bui Xuan Nam - Vice Rector of HUMG, Associate Professor Trieu Hung Truong - Vice Rector of HUMG. The Conference welcomed Mr. Ho Chi Hung - Vice President of Vietnam - Poland Friendship Association, representative of VINACOMIN and more than 100 Vietnamese and Polish delegates.

Professor Jerzy Lis – Rector of AGH UST and Professor Tran Thanh Hai - Rector of HUMG delivered the opening speech and welcomed the scientists of the two sides and affirmed that the conferences have proved to be an excellent environment for partners from Vietnam and Poland as well as other countries to discuss, propose new initiatives for collaborations in research, training, and education in the near future. In addition, this event has been strong evidence of the successful cooperation and long-lasting partnership between the two universities and also significantly promoted the friendship between Vietnam and Poland.

At the Plenary Session, Professor Bui Xuan Nam – Chairman of Scientific Committee of Viet-Pol 2021 Conference had a report to provide information about the Conference and Associate Professor Marek Borowski presented a keynote highlighting the key achievements of cooperation between Vietnam and Poland in training and scientific research.

Sixty-three qualified papers have been selected from more than 100 submissions and published in 3 journals: the Polish Inzynieria Mineralna - Journal of the Polish Mineral Engineering Society; Journal  of Geology, Geophysics and Environment of AGH UST and the Journal of Mining and Earth Sciences of Viet Nam. The scientific researches address plenty of topical issues in Mining, Geotechnical Engineering and Sustainable Development.

The 7th Pol-Viet Conference will be held in Poland in June 2023.
