Hanoi University of Mining and Geology Welcomes Delegation from China University of Mining and Technology

22/05/2025

On May 20, 2025, at the But Thap Meeting Room, Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG) solemnly welcomed a delegation from the China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT), led by Prof. Dr. Li Qiang – Vice President of CUMT, along with representatives from various functional departments.

On the HUMG side, the delegation was received by Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Hai – Rector of the University, together with representatives from relevant academic faculties. This event was an important occasion in external relations, contributing to the consolidation and development of the strategic partnership between two leading universities in the fields of mining and geosciences in Vietnam and China.

During the meeting, the two universities reviewed the notable achievements of their cooperation since 2002. As one of China’s top universities in mining and geological engineering, CUMT has consistently supported HUMG in training and developing high-quality human resources. To date, more than 300 HUMG staff and students have studied at CUMT, including 13 PhD graduates. Many of them currently hold key positions in teaching, research, and university administration at HUMG, fostering a lasting connection between the two universities — not only at the institutional level but also through strong academic and professional linkages.

Overview of the meeting between HUMG and CUMT

Looking ahead, both sides agreed to further promote joint training programs, academic exchanges of faculty, students, and scholars, as well as cooperation in postgraduate education and the development of research groups in specialized areas aligned with each university’s strengths. CUMT reaffirmed its continued commitment to offering full scholarships to HUMG staff and students in fields such as mining engineering, mine safety, geodesy and cartography, engineering geology, and mining environmental engineering. HUMG also expressed interest in continuing to welcome CUMT scholars and experts to deliver lectures and share professional expertise within the academic cooperation framework between the two universities.

Prof. Tran Thanh Hai presented a gift to Prof. Li Qiang

In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Hai expressed sincere appreciation for CUMT’s practical and effective support in enhancing HUMG’s academic workforce. He also hoped that the partnership between the two universities would continue to evolve in a more innovative, flexible, and practice-oriented direction, aligned with ongoing reforms in higher education and growing demands for research capacity and international integration in training.

This visit marked an important milestone in strengthening the partnership between HUMG and CUMT – two pioneering universities in the field of mining and geosciences in the region. With a solid foundation of collaboration, a shared vision for development, and a mutual commitment to international academic standards, the two universities look forward to continuing their close cooperation, jointly generating valuable knowledge, and contributing to the development of high-quality human resources for the sustainable advancement of the mining and geosciences sector in an increasingly globalized world.
