Awarding Ceremony of the Medal “For the Cause of Education” to Professor Daniel Dias – Grenoble Alpes University, France

On the afternoon of May 20, 2025, at the Pho Yen Meeting Room, Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG) solemnly held the ceremony to award the Medal “For the Cause of Education”, granted by the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam to Prof. Dr. Daniel Dias from Grenoble Alpes University (France), in recognition of his sustained and impactful contributions to higher education in Vietnam in general, and to HUMG in particular.

In attendance were Prof. Dr. Daniel Dias and distinguished guests representing professional scientific and technological associations in Vietnam, partner universities, and enterprises that had maintained long-standing collaborations with the Professor in research and education. Representing HUMG were Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Hai – Rector, along with leaders of academic faculties, administrative units, alumni who had studied in France, and a large number of faculty members and outstanding students at the University.

In the solemn atmosphere of the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Hai – on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Training – formally presented the Medal “For the Cause of Education” and a commemorative gift to Prof. Dr. Daniel Dias, expressing sincere appreciation from both the Vietnamese education sector and HUMG for his significant academic contributions.

In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Hai expressed the University’s honor in awarding this prestigious distinction to an exemplary international scholar. He emphasized that the recognition not only celebrated the outstanding scholarly contributions of Prof. Dr. Daniel Dias, but also symbolized the deep, effective, and strategic academic partnership between HUMG and Grenoble Alpes University. As HUMG approached its 60th anniversary, the Rector highlighted the importance of such events in reaffirming the University’s commitment to high-quality, sustainable international cooperation in education and research.

In response, Prof. Dr. Daniel Dias expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, the leadership of HUMG, and its faculty for the warm reception and the honor of receiving the Medal. He noted that this occasion marked a meaningful milestone in his long-standing collaboration with HUMG – a partnership built not only on academic cooperation, but also on mutual trust and personal connection. He reaffirmed his commitment to continuing collaboration with HUMG in postgraduate training, geotechnical engineering research, and academic exchange – particularly in projects related to tunneling and high-speed railway development, a field he has been actively pursuing with significant potential for Vietnam–France cooperation.

The ceremony was not only a solemn occasion to honor the remarkable contributions of Prof. Dr. Daniel Dias, but also a vivid demonstration of HUMG’s commitment to building meaningful and enduring international academic partnerships.
