The visit was conducted within the framework of a survey programme organised by Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training to promote training linkages between Vietnamese and Lao higher education institutions. The programme provided HUMG with further opportunities to strengthen connections, gain a better understanding of training needs in Laos, and advance areas of cooperation aligned with the University’s strengths.
Representing Polytechnic College at the working session were Ms. Chanmaly Inthapatha and Mr. Outnong Phetsarath, Deputy Directors of the College, together with representatives of its academic and administrative units.
Overview of the working session
During the meeting, the two institutions reviewed the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2022 and discussed areas of cooperation that could be further developed in the coming period. Key topics included human resource training and professional development, faculty and student exchanges, academic cooperation, the sharing of specialised materials, and joint scientific research. The discussions focused on aligning the needs of Polytechnic College with HUMG’s training capacity, research expertise, and academic resources.
Following the discussions, the two institutions agreed to continue advancing the areas of cooperation already identified, giving priority to practical activities that respond to actual needs and can be implemented in the near future. This marked an important step towards translating the existing agreements into more specific collaborative programmes in training, academic exchange, and professional development.
On this occasion, Hanoi University of Mining and Geology donated 30 specialised book titles, totalling more than 120 printed copies, to Polytechnic College. The donated books supplemented the College’s teaching and learning resources while demonstrating the two institutions’ commitment to sharing academic resources and supporting each other in education and training.

Prior to the working session, the HUMG delegation also met with Lao alumni from different generations who had studied at the University and were living and working in Vientiane. The gathering was held in the lead-up to HUMG’s 60th anniversary (1966–2026). It provided an opportunity for the University to further strengthen its longstanding ties with Lao alumni and promote the alumni network as a sustainable bridge connecting HUMG with government agencies, educational institutions, and partners in Laos.

The working session and book donation further consolidated the foundation of cooperation established by the two institutions over the years and created additional opportunities for their partnership to become more substantive and closely aligned with practical needs. Building on this foundation, HUMG and Polytechnic College aim to develop more practical collaborative programmes in training, academic cooperation, and human resource development, thereby contributing to the continued advancement of educational cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
