The Delegation of Hanoi University of Mining and Geology Attended the ROSTKI 2025 Forum and Strengthened Cooperation with Kazan Federal University

From August 18 to 20, 2025, a delegation of the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen The Vinh – Vice Rector, paid a working visit to Kazan Federal University (KFU), Russian Federation, and participated in the 3rd International Forum “ROSTKI.”

During the visit, the delegation met with KFU leadership, toured facilities, and held discussions with leading scientists and experts in Earth Sciences and Petroleum Technologies.

In the meeting with Prof. Danis Nurgaliev – Vice Rector for Petroleum Technologies and Geosciences, Prof. Ildus Chukmarov – Deputy Director for Continuing Education and Industrial Partnerships, and Dr. Yury Nurmeev – Officer at the International Office, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen The Vinh outlined HUMG’s priorities in international cooperation and expressed the university’s interest in collaborating with KFU in training and research, particularly in Earth Sciences, petroleum, strategic minerals, and energy transition. Vice Rector Nurgaliev presented KFU’s current priorities in geology, petroleum science, petrochemistry, and environmental studies, highlighting the Carbon Polygon – one of at least eight such facilities across Russia – as a key research strength of KFU.

Prof. Nurgaliev and Prof. Chukmarov agreed to organize short courses, delivered on-site, online, or in blended formats, for HUMG students and young researchers; to host study visits and internships at KFU’s leading laboratories; and to cooperate in master’s and doctoral training.

The delegation also visited KFU’s main building to learn about the 221-year history of one of Russia’s oldest and largest universities (second only to Moscow State University), a leading center of education and research in the Volga region, and the alma mater of many distinguished Russian and international scholars. On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen The Vinh met Dr. Timirkhan Alishev – Vice Rector for International Affairs of KFU. The two Vice Rectors agreed to advance the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in December 2024, focusing on shared academic priorities.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen The Vinh remarked: “I am very pleased to visit Kazan Federal University – one of the leading universities in the Russian Federation. The university has excellent infrastructure, outstanding conditions for study and research, and demonstrates warm hospitality. I am confident that HUMG’s students and lecturers will have opportunities to study and conduct research here in petroleum and related fields.” On this occasion, the Vice Rector also cordially invited KFU representatives to attend HUMG’s 60th Anniversary Celebration scheduled for November 2026.

As part of the working program, the HUMG delegation toured state-of-the-art laboratories at the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies, including the Laboratory of In-Situ Combustion, Laboratory of Catalytic Aquathermolysis, Geochemistry Laboratory, X-ray CT Laboratory, and the 3D Geo Center, to learn about KFU’s advanced research and explore opportunities for future cooperation.

In addition, the HUMG delegation attended the session “Educational and Scientific Cooperation between Russia and China: New Projects and Development Trends” chaired by KFU within the framework of the ROSTKI International Forum. At the session, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao – Coordinator of the International Office, HUMG – presented a report highlighting HUMG’s achievements in cooperation with Russian and Chinese partners, as well as prospects for future collaboration in Earth Sciences, new energy, renewable energy, carbon transition, strategic minerals, and digital transformation. The presentation affirmed HUMG’s role in expanding academic connections with universities and research institutes in the region.

The working visit to the Russian Federation reaffirmed HUMG’s proactive role in international integration, while opening practical prospects for cooperation with strategic partners. These outcomes will enhance training quality, advance scientific research, and strengthen HUMG’s international standing in the global academic community. The results of this trip will serve as a solid foundation for HUMG to implement in-depth cooperation programs, expand academic networks, and reinforce its reputation in the process of higher education internationalization.
