On 27 October 2026, the Indian newspaper The New Indian Express highlighted a presentation by Dr. To Xuan Ban, Dean of the Faculty of Geosciences and Geoengineering at Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG), at the International Conference on Earth and Environment in the Anthropocene (ICEEA 2026), held from 26 to 30 October at the Central University of Karnataka, India. As a Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker, he presented research on geological hazards at reservoir dams in Vietnam and shared his perspectives on the responsibilities of the scientific community in addressing environmental challenges.

During the first plenary session on 26 October, Dr. To Xuan Ban delivered a keynote presentation entitled “Geological Hazards at Reservoir Dams in Ninh Binh Province, Vietnam.” The presentation addressed geological hazards in relation to reservoir dam safety, an issue of practical significance for water resources management and disaster risk reduction. By presenting research focused on Ninh Binh Province, he brought geological issues relevant to Vietnam into international academic discussions on the relationship between human activities, changes affecting the Earth, and the environment in which we live.

Beyond his specialised research, Dr. Ban also addressed challenges posed by climate change, natural disasters, environmental degradation, and the growing demand for natural resources. He emphasised the role of scientific innovation in finding solutions for a sustainable future, while highlighting the shared responsibility of geoscientists to understand the Earth, protect the environment, and promote sustainability.

The New Indian Express reported on Dr. To Xuan Ban’s presentation at ICEEA 2026 on 27 October 2026

Given the transnational nature of these challenges, international cooperation was highlighted as an important means of developing scientific solutions. At the conference, Dr. Ban discussed opportunities for collaboration among educational and research institutions in Vietnam, India, and Mexico through joint research, educational initiatives, and academic exchanges.

Research on geological hazards at reservoir dams in Ninh Binh Province brought issues rooted in Vietnam’s local context into broader discussions in Earth sciences at ICEEA 2026. In doing so, the presentation connected specialised research with the international scientific community’s shared concerns about natural resources, the environment, and sustainable development.
