James Nickel, Ambassador of Canada to Vietnam; Mr. Ha Nguyen, Consul and Executive Director of the Saskatchewan office in Vietnam; and Dr. Jeff Keshen, President of the University of Regina (Canada), along with representatives from relevant agencies and organizations. Prof. Trieu Hung Truong, Vice Rector; together with representatives of functional offices and academic units of the University.
In his remarks, Prof. Tran Thanh Hai, Rector of HUMG, emphasized that cooperation between the two universities has been established and steadily developed over the years. Collaborative activities in education, research, and academic exchange have demonstrated their effectiveness and contributed to strengthening institutional linkages. The continued signing and expansion of cooperation reflect mutual trust and reaffirm the commitment of both sides to developing in-depth and effective collaborative programmes in the coming period, particularly in the fields of mineral exploration, extraction, and processing for energy transition; sustainable and responsible mining; and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS).

Subsequently, H.E. James Nickel, Ambassador of Canada to Vietnam, highly appreciated the potential for cooperation between Vietnam and Canada in higher education and human resource development. He noted that educational cooperation not only enhances training quality but also plays an important role in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The remarks delivered at the ceremony reflected a shared vision and strong consensus in promoting international educational cooperation. The partnership between the two universities is not only formalized through signed agreements but also strengthened through trust and long-standing academic connections.
Within the programme, Prof. Tran Thanh Hai shared his academic journey in Canada, including his studies at the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan. His years of study and research, together with guidance from his professors and personal dedication, laid the foundation for his academic development, career path, and the person he is today. His sincere and inspiring remarks left a strong impression on the participants.
Providing an overview of the cooperation outcomes between the two universities during the 2022–2025 period, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoai Nga, Head of the International office and Secretary of the Strong research group on “Advances in sustainable and responsible mining” (ISRM), reviewed the key achievements in academic exchange, the organization of specialized conferences and workshops, faculty and student mobility, as well as the implementation of joint research programmes. These outcomes demonstrated the effectiveness of the partnership and opened up further directions for future collaboration.

At the ceremony, representatives of the two universities signed the MoU and the SEPA. These agreements provide an important framework for implementing specific collaborative activities, while creating new opportunities for faculty members and students of both institutions.
