As part of the programme, HUMG attended the seminar entitled “Vietnam–Laos Higher Education Cooperation: Discussions on the Establishment of Branch Campuses of Vietnamese Universities in Laos and the Laos–Vietnam Friendship University Project”. The seminar was jointly organised by Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training, the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports, and the Embassy of Vietnam in Lao PDR.
Participants discussed the Laos–Vietnam Friendship University Project, the proposed establishment of branch campuses of Vietnamese universities in Laos, 2+2 and 3+1 joint training models, and the expansion of Vietnamese-language education. The proposed university is envisaged as a high-quality, smart and modern public institution, contributing to more sustainable and effective cooperation in higher education.

In addition to participating in the survey delegation’s joint programme, HUMG proactively held in-depth discussions with its partners on areas aligned with the University’s strengths in education and research. During a meeting with the Polytechnic College, the two institutions reviewed the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2022. They also discussed cooperation in human resource training and development, faculty and student exchanges, the sharing of learning resources, and joint scientific research. On this occasion, HUMG donated more than 120 copies of 30 book titles, helping to enrich teaching and learning resources and promote knowledge sharing between the two institutions.

HUMG and Champasak University also discussed opportunities for cooperation in education, research and academic activities, with a view to finalising a cooperation agreement between the two universities. During a working session held as part of the Ministry of Education and Training delegation’s programme, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Khanh shared HUMG’s perspectives on strengthening training cooperation between Vietnamese and Lao higher education institutions. He emphasised the importance of developing practical cooperative models that capitalise on the strengths of each institution and respond to the human resource development needs of both countries.

During a meeting with the Department of Geology and Mines of Lao PDR, HUMG discussed training and human resource development needs in geology and mineral resources. Particular attention was given to opportunities for cooperation in postgraduate education, professional development, and engagement with HUMG alumni currently working in the sector in Laos. Through these discussions, HUMG sought to align its strengths in education and research more closely with the practical needs of bilateral cooperation in the mining sector.

At Souphanouvong University, HUMG participated in the joint working programme of the Ministry of Education and Training delegation. The two universities also discussed cooperation in education and capacity building in civil engineering, information technology, geological surveying, and mineral exploration. They explored opportunities to implement 1+1 and 2+2 programmes, short-term research programmes, and doctoral training in Vietnam under the bilateral agreement between the two Governments. Two HUMG alumni who are currently teaching at the Faculty of Engineering continue to serve as important links between the two universities. On this occasion, HUMG donated nearly 50 copies of approximately 20 book titles to the Faculty of Geology, helping to expand its learning resources for education and research.

In addition to its official meetings, the HUMG delegation met with Lao alumni from different generations who had studied at the University and are now living and working in Vientiane and Luang Prabang. The meetings were held as HUMG approaches the 60th anniversary of its establishment (1966–2026). Many of these alumni currently work for government agencies, educational institutions and professional organisations in Laos and continue to serve as close and trusted links between HUMG and its Lao partners.

The visit not only contributed to strengthening educational cooperation between Vietnam and Laos but also expanded professional and academic networks and deepened HUMG’s engagement with its Lao alumni. Through the meetings, the University continued to translate established areas of cooperation into concrete activities, lay the groundwork for new cooperative frameworks, and capitalise on its strengths in geology, mining and engineering. On this foundation, HUMG will continue making practical contributions to educational cooperation and human resource development in both countries.
