Hanoi University of Mining and Geology Successfully Organized the 8th Viet–Pol International Conference on Scientific and Research Cooperation (Viet–Pol 2025)

24/10/2025

On October 21–22, 2025, Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG) organized the 8th International Conference on Scientific and Research Cooperation between Vietnam and Poland (Viet–Pol 2025) in Hanoi. The event was particularly meaningful as it marked the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Poland (1950–2025) and anticipated the 60th anniversary of HUMG (1966–2026), highlighting a long tradition of friendship and academic partnership.

The conference welcomed Ms. Joanna Skoczek – Head of Mission of the Republic of Poland to Vietnam, Prof. Jerzy Lis – Rector of AGH University of Krakow (Poland), Dr. Marcin Dąbrowski – Chancellor of the Warsaw School of Economics, along with many distinguished scientists, representatives from enterprises and organizations of both countries, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), National Institute of Oil and Gas (INiG-PIB, Poland), Machine and Device Factory “OMAG” Limited Liability Company (Poland), Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin), Metallurgical - Mining Equipment and Consulting Technology Joint Stock Company (GAVAQ), Thai Nguyen Non - Ferrous Metal Joint Stock Company

On the host organisation, the event gathered Assoc. Prof. Tran Xuan Truong – Chairman of the University Council, Prof. Tran Thanh Hai – Rector of HUMG, and numerous lecturers, researchers, and students from HUMG and other institutions.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Tran Thanh Hai - Rector of HUMG, emphasized that Viet–Pol has become a symbol of scientific cooperation between Vietnam and Poland and an important platform for advancing research and innovation toward sustainable development. He noted that Viet–Pol 2025 addressed issues such as carbon transition, responsible industry, natural hazards, climate change, and digital transformation — all aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and HUMG’s green transition strategy. He affirmed that the conference is not only an academic forum but also a strategic avenue for expanding international collaboration and strengthening HUMG’s role among leading research universities in the region.

Delivering her remarks, Ms. Joanna Skoczek -  Head of Mission of the Republic of Poland to Vietnam, highlighted the historical depth of Vietnam–Poland relations and the central role of education in maintaining that friendship. Thousands of Vietnamese students have studied in Poland, many of whom now contribute as academics and researchers at HUMG. She praised the four-decade partnership between HUMG and AGH University of Krakow and the positive results of Erasmus+ programs, joint research projects, and regular Viet–Pol conferences, which have enhanced mutual understanding and long-term cooperation. The conference themes — green growth, circular economy, carbon transition, and digital transformation — reflect shared priorities toward inclusive and sustainable development.

Concluding two days of productive sessions, Viet–Pol 2025 opened new prospects for interdisciplinary cooperation and reaffirmed the role of scientific diplomacy in the Vietnam–Poland partnership. On October 23–24, participants joined a field excursion to Ninh Binh Province, exploring the geological and cultural values of the Trang An Landscape Complex – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, further strengthening ties in sustainable geoscience education and research.

Viet–Pol 2025 not only celebrated scientific achievements but also deepened the long-standing friendship between Vietnam and Poland, paving the way for new horizons in sustainable cooperation. The conference reaffirmed the role of science and education as key drivers of development and highlighted HUMG’s growing international reputation. With its outcomes, Viet–Pol 2025 continues to strengthen HUMG’s position as a hub of knowledge, collaboration, and innovation in earth sciences and sustainable industry, standing as a vivid testament to the enduring partnership and shared vision of the Vietnamese and Polish academic communities. The success of Viet–Pol 2025 once again reaffirmed the vitality of scientific diplomacy and the long-standing friendship between Vietnam and Poland.
