The Rector of HUMG visited Hungary and the UK according to high-ranking delegations of the National Assembly and the Government

From June 26, 2022 to June 30, 2022, Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Hai - Rector the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology joined the delegation of the Ministry of Education and Training accompanying National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh to visit officially Hungary and the United Kingdom of Great Britain.

In Hungary, from June 26 to June 27, 2022, Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Hai participated in Hungarian – Vietnamese Rectors’ Forum held at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. Hungary is the EU member state that grants the most scholarships to Vietnam with 200 scholarships per year, and considers Vietnam a priority in its official development assistance (ODA) policy with a commitment of 440 million EUR (about USD 465 million) concessional loans to implement projects in priority fields for cooperation of the two countries. The event was welcomed by H.E. Mr. Le Van Thanh - Viet Nam Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Balázs Hankó - Deputy Secretary of Hungarian State, Dr. László Borhy - President of the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference, Rector of Eötvös Loránd University and officially opened by Mr. Nguyen Kim Son - Vietnamese Minister of Education and Training.

Prof. Tran Thanh Hai met and discussed with the Hungarian partners of HUMG (Miskolc University, Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest University of Technology and Economics – BME), and signed and exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding with Óbuda University Budapest with the witness of the leaders of the two countries.

After finishing the working session in Hungary, the delegation visited the UK from June 28 to June 30, 2022. Prof. Tran Thanh Hai participated in the UK-Viet Nam Education Collaboration Forum held in London. This is an important event with the attendance of many leaders of the two countries: HE. Vuong Dinh Hue, Chairman of Viet Nam National Assembly;  H.E. Mr. Le Van Thanh, Viet Nam Deputy Prime Minister; Rt Hon Nigel Evans MP, Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons; Assoc . Prof Nguyen Kim Son, Minister of Education and Training, Viet Nam; Professor Sir Steve Smith, UK International Education Champion;  Mr. Nguyen Dac Vinh, Chairman of Education, Cultural and Youth Committee, Viet Nam National Assembly; Senior leaders from Department of International Trade; Mr. Martin Hope, Portfolio Lead, Higher Education and Science, British Council;  Senior leaders of Vietnamese higher education institutions; Senior leaders of UK higher education institutions and businesses.

With the witness of the leaders of the two countries, Prof. Tran Thanh Hai signed and exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Bristol to establish a cooperative relationship between the two universities.

HUMG is an active member of the Vietnam - UK Higher Education Network since 2018. Since then, the University has cooperated with UK and VN universities to implements projects chosen and funded by the British Council, such as the project of development of University – Industry partnership, research and mobility coordinated with University of Salford, the project “Towards excellence in research and knowledge transfer a global partnership approach” in collaboration with University of Portsmouth.

On this occasion, Prof. Tran Thanh Hai had a meeting with Prof. Ben Calvert – Vice-Chancellor of South Wales University, Representative of Vietnam - UK Higher Education Network from the UK side to discuss the cooperation programs between in the near future and was invited by Cambridge University to attend a networking lunch.
