From 6 to 25 September 2026, five students and graduate students from Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG) participated in the 2026 International Summer Camp on Future Transportation hosted by Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST), China. The HUMG participants were Le Cong Cuong and Tu Trieu Nhat from the Faculty of Civil Engineering; Ha Minh Duong and Duong Quynh Anh from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration; and Nguyen Thi Thanh Xuan from the Faculty of Geomatics and Land Administration.

The camp offered opportunities to learn about emerging trends in transportation, exchange academic ideas and gain practical experience. It also enabled participants to build connections with peers from other countries.

During the programme, participants explored intelligent transportation, smart logistics, connected and autonomous vehicles, low-carbon development, artificial intelligence (AI), and new technologies for the construction, management and operation of transport infrastructure. Alongside academic activities at KUST, they visited laboratories, research facilities and technology companies in Yunnan Province to see how research is put into practice.

During the site visits, participants explored an intelligent road tunnel simulation system, vehicle management and control platforms, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), autonomous vehicles, and the use of data and sensors in transportation. These activities connected academic knowledge with practical applications and broadened participants’ understanding of technologies shaping future transport systems.

Reflecting on the programme, Tu Trieu Nhat, a student from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, said: “My 20 days in Kunming broadened my thinking and gave me the chance to connect with people across borders. What I will remember most is studying, discussing ideas and spending time with students from different countries. Despite our differences in language and culture, we found common ground in our interest in intelligent transportation, sustainable infrastructure and applications of AI. The trip broadened my academic perspective, brought me valuable international friendships and motivated me to keep learning, conducting research and engaging with the wider world.”

At the closing ceremony, the HUMG participants received certificates of completion, marking the end of nearly three weeks of study and experience at KUST. The knowledge, practical experience and connections gained through the programme will help them pursue their studies and research with greater confidence and take part in future international activities.

Since 2025, HUMG and KUST have developed their partnership through student exchange activities, including HUMG students’ participation in the International Summer Camp on Low-Carbon Metallurgy and Green Energy, as well as academic programmes and discussions on engineering education. This summer camp built on that cooperation, giving HUMG participants opportunities to learn about new developments in transportation while creating further opportunities for academic exchange and international connections. Their experiences in Kunming will encourage them to keep learning, exploring and engaging internationally, while helping to deepen exchange and cooperation between the two universities.
