In their discussion of Vietnam–Poland relations, the Polish partners highlighted Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG) as an important bridge connecting the two countries in higher education, science and technology.
Reflecting on his Vietnamese friends who studied at AGH in the 1970s, Prof. Jerzy Lis emphasised the role of successive generations of alumni in sustaining and developing cooperation between the two countries. He also referred to HUMG, whose formal partnership with AGH began in 1986 and has now spanned 40 years, encompassing education, research and academic exchange. This longstanding relationship illustrates the enduring ties between Vietnamese and Polish higher education institutions.

Taking a broader perspective, Prof. Rafał Witkowski observed that geographical distance need not stand in the way of close relations between countries. Universities can serve as bridges connecting people, cultures and knowledge. AMU currently cooperates with seven Vietnamese universities across fields ranging from language and cultural education to scientific research, including a longstanding partnership with HUMG.

Dr. Wojciech Karczewski, Director General of NAWA, specifically identified HUMG as one of AGH’s four strategic technical university partners in Vietnam. He also introduced the programme that sends Polish language lecturers to teach at HUMG and noted that the NAWA Strategic Four initiative was expected to be launched in December 2026, opening up further opportunities for scholarships, exchanges of teaching staff and students, and joint research between the two countries.

The Polish partners’ reflections bring together four decades of HUMG–AGH cooperation, the longstanding HUMG–AMU partnership and NAWA’s recognition of HUMG in its strategic cooperation priorities involving technical universities. Together, these perspectives highlight HUMG’s important role in the network of scientific and educational cooperation between Vietnam and Poland.
These relationships provide a foundation for HUMG to further expand its international partnerships, develop education and research programmes, promote academic exchange and support human resource development. They also help bring connections nurtured across generations into a new phase of deeper cooperation.
