Hanoi University of Mining and Geology Strengthened Strategic Cooperation with Chinese Educational Institutions

18/11/2025

From 10 to 16 November 2025, a delegation from Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Khanh, Vice Rector, undertook a series of high-level institutional visits in Henan, Tianjin, and Beijing (China). The mission formed a strategic milestone in HUMG’s efforts to strengthen its academic presence in Asia and advance internationally oriented education, research, and knowledge-transfer initiatives for the 2025–2030 period.

On 11 November, the delegation attended the conference “Enhancing International Education Cooperation – Exploring New Pathways for Exchange and Development.” At the plenary session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Khanh presented HUMG’s international cooperation strategy, highlighting the University’s well-established strengths in geotechnical safety—from disaster early warning and foundation engineering to underground construction and landslide mitigation. These capabilities resonate strongly with the emerging technological and research priorities of China’s expanding railway sector, drawing significant attention from participating institutions.

On the sidelines of the event, the delegation engaged in purposeful discussions with the leadership of Zhengzhou Railway Vocational and Technical College. Both sides explored the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and clear avenues for expanding faculty–student mobility in railway engineering. HUMG emphasized its expertise in disaster prevention and geotechnical sciences, while the partner institution highlighted its advantages in automation, railway operations, and practice-oriented vocational training. The exchanges helped identify mutually beneficial areas for forward-looking cooperation.

Later the same day, the delegation visited Henan Vocational College of Economics and Trade to discuss potential collaboration in e-commerce, logistics, and Chinese-language training integrated with vocational competencies. Proposed initiatives—including academic exchanges, short-term study programs, and steps toward formalized cooperation—were assessed as highly compatible with HUMG’s goal of broadening international learning opportunities for students in economics-, business-, and language-related fields.

On 13 November in Tianjin, the delegation met with the leadership of Tianjin University of Technology. Discussions centered on joint initiatives in information technology, business administration, applied economics, and Chinese-language education, alongside plans to enhance faculty–student mobility and cultural exchange. With complementary development priorities, both institutions affirmed their intention to develop a long-term, multidisciplinary partnership with substantive academic outcomes.

On 14 November in Beijing, the delegation visited the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB), a long-standing and trusted strategic partner of HUMG. During the session, the two institutions formally presented the previously signed MOU, reaffirming a partnership built on sustained academic engagement. The meeting focused on expanding cooperation in mining engineering, mineral processing, automation, green mining, and renewable energy. Both sides also expressed strong commitment to deepening co-authored publications, joint research projects, and academic exchange programs in a more structured and impactful manner.

On 15 November, the delegation held further discussions with the National Chinese Language Commission on enhancing Chinese-language instruction, scholarship opportunities, and academic exchange programs for HUMG students. Both sides underscored the need to broaden cultural and academic cooperation and to develop additional pathways for HUMG students to engage with Chinese higher education institutions.
