Students from Hanoi University of Mining and Geology make their mark at “Summer University 2026” in the Russian Federation

From 6 to 19 July 2026, students from Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG) participated in the international “Summer University 2026” programme at Ural Federal University (UrFU) in Yekaterinburg and Siberian Federal University (SibFU) in Krasnoyarsk, the Russian Federation.

The participants included Tu Trieu Nhat from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, and Nguyen Quynh Chi, Duong Quynh Anh and Hoang Ngoc Bao from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration.

Fully funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the programme brought together hundreds of students from various countries. It provided participants with opportunities to experience an international academic environment, explore emerging trends and strengthen their ability to work in multicultural settings.

During the programme, HUMG students attended specialised courses in sustainable development, management, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, entrepreneurship, project management and big data analytics. The lectures and academic activities helped them broaden their knowledge and improve their managerial thinking, teamwork, foreign language skills and adaptability in an international environment.

One of the programme’s highlights was the HackAtom Challenge organised by Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation. Students worked in interdisciplinary teams to address practical issues in nuclear technology and clean energy, develop solutions and present their projects to a panel of experts.

Notably, Hoang Ngoc Bao and his teammates won Second Prize in their category with the project entitled “Transforming Nuclear Waste Heat into Sustainable Growth.” The project proposed using waste heat from nuclear power plants to support sustainable development, with potential applications in agriculture and aquaculture.

In addition to academic and research activities, HUMG students visited businesses, industrial exhibitions, energy facilities, museums, scenic attractions and cultural sites in the Russian Federation. These activities enabled them to expand their practical knowledge, learn about scientific and technological achievements, and explore the history and culture of the host country.

During international exchange activities, the students introduced Vietnamese culture and cuisine to peers from other countries while participating in sports, arts and extracurricular activities. These experiences strengthened mutual understanding among students from different countries and helped promote the image of Viet Nam and its people.

Sharing his experience, Tu Trieu Nhat from the Faculty of Civil Engineering said:

“Summer University 2026 at UrFU was a highly meaningful experience of academic learning and international exchange. Working with students from different countries, particularly during Rosatom’s HackAtom Challenge, helped me broaden my perspective and improve my adaptability. The knowledge I gained about ESG, artificial intelligence and green technology will be valuable for my studies and future academic and professional development.”

At the end of the programme, the HUMG students received certificates of completion. In particular, Duong Quynh Anh was selected by Ural Federal University to participate in its international “Winter University” programme. Her selection recognised her academic ability, initiative and adaptability in an international academic environment.

The achievements of HUMG students at “Summer University 2026” demonstrated their initiative, adaptability and readiness to engage in a multicultural academic environment. The knowledge, skills and experience gained from the programme will provide a valuable foundation for their future studies, research and career development.
