Leaders of HUMG visit UK higher education institutions to strengthen UK - VN Higher Education collaboration

The visit was organized by British Council Viet Nam with the participation of more than 30 leaders of 15 Viet Nam universities to the UK, meeting and discussing with over 30 UK institutions in an intensive working week. HUMG, a member of the UK - VN Higher Education Network, contributed to the success of the visit with the active participation of Prof. Rector Tran Thanh Hai.

Visiting Cambridge, the Vietnamese delegates were working at Cambridge Centre for Social Innovation, University of Cambridge. Dr Neil Stott, Co-director of the centre shared the UK's greatest experience through innovation in researching, teaching, and connecting with the society. Besides, a representative from Praxis Auril also talked about the knowledge exchange and commercialisation model for economic growth.

In London, Vietnamese delegates joined the UK Vietnam Higher Education Partnership workshop – Building sustainable partnerships for development in the new era with the participation of over 30 UK partners. Members of the UK Vietnam Higher Education Network then participated in the UK Vietnam Higher Education Network Strategic Leadership Meeting and networking dinner.

The next stop of Vietnamese delegates in their journey to share knowledge and learn experience in the field of higher education from the UK is Imperial College London - one of the most innovative universities in 2019 (by THE and Reuters 2019). The delagation visited the Molecular Science Research Hub and The Imperial White City Incubator - a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship and were really impressed with the school’s capacity and strategy. Additionally, they visited University of East London, where Prof. Hai could discuss further with leaders of the University, sharing experiences of cirriculum development, management of changing in higher education, and improvement of university - industry linkage.

In Manchester, the Vietnamese leaders visited University of Salford, a partner of HUMG. Participates of the visit were introduced about Industry Collaboration Zone – Benefits for students, staff and industry, how to build a curriculum for the 21st Century and beyond and the school's research and development strategies to maximize distinction and knowledge transfer partnership.

University of Salford is now a partner in the project of Capacity Development in developing university - industry likage with Vietnamese universities of HUMG, Can Tho University, Mien Tay Construction University and Tra Vinh University.

The delegates had their last working day at University of Edinburgh and broadened their networking with Scottish HE sector bodies and universities at the British Council office in Scotland. The University of Heriot - Watt, a public university which is ranked 35 in the UK in science and engineering, is interested in further collaboration with HUMG. 

The UK Vietnam Higher Education Network was formally launched by Vice Minister, Associate Professor Nguyen Van Phuc during the UK Vietnam Higher Education Collaboration forum in October 2018. The network’s expected vision is to strengthen higher education partnerships between the UK and Vietnam through diverse policy dialogues and impact-led partnership projects.
