The visit took place against the backdrop of the continued strengthening of Vietnam–Australia relations under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with science, technology, innovation, education and human resource development becoming increasingly important areas of cooperation.
One of the highlights of the visit was the HUMG delegation’s participation in the Vietnam-Australia Forum on Science and Technology, Innovation, Investment, Education and Training, and Human Resource Development (Tech Connect) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). The Forum was held within the framework of the State Visit to Australia by General Secretary and President To Lam, who attended and addressed the event.
The HUMG delegation joined representatives of Vietnamese universities at the Vietnam–Australia Tech Connect Forum 2026.
Tech Connect brought together representatives from government agencies, universities, research institutes, businesses and expert communities from both countries, promoting cooperation in science, technology, innovation, education and human resource development. Through its participation in the Forum, HUMG expanded its academic and research networks in Australia while introducing the University’s strengths in education and research to potential partners.

In addition to Tech Connect, the HUMG delegation held meetings with several universities, organisations and expert networks in Australia.
The delegation met and exchanged views with Assoc. Prof. Lien Duong, Vice President of the Vietnam-Australia Scholars & Experts Association (VASEA), on strengthening HUMG’s connections with the Vietnamese academic and professional community in Australia. The two sides discussed opportunities to engage Vietnamese scientists and experts in education, research and academic exchange, thereby creating additional channels of cooperation for the University.
At Curtin University, the HUMG delegation met with Prof. Vanessa Chang, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Business and Law, and other Curtin representatives. Building on the existing cooperation between the two universities, including the fact that several HUMG lecturers had completed their doctoral studies at Curtin, the two sides discussed expanding cooperation in education, staff and student exchanges, joint research, and stronger links between their academic units.
The discussions also highlighted significant areas of common interest between HUMG and Curtin University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, particularly the Western Australian School of Mines (WASM). The two sides agreed to continue discussions to gradually develop specific areas of cooperation and work towards establishing an institutional cooperation framework in the future.

Continuing its cooperation activities, the HUMG delegation visited and worked with the School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Prof. Ismet Canbulat, Head of School, together with UNSW professors, lecturers and researchers, discussed with the delegation opportunities for cooperation in education, staff and student exchanges, joint research, and the development of joint academic programmes in areas of shared strength such as mining, geology, resources and energy.

A highlight of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between HUMG and UNSW, marking an important step forward in the relationship between the two universities and establishing a framework for advancing specific cooperation activities in education, research and academic exchange. The HUMG delegation also explored UNSW’s research and teaching facilities as well as its modern visualisation and simulation systems, opening up further possibilities for the application of digital technologies in education and research in engineering, resources and energy.

The visit to Australia helped expand HUMG’s international network and enhance the effectiveness of its international cooperation. Participation in Tech Connect within the framework of the State Visit, together with exchanges with VASEA, Curtin University and UNSW, provided a stronger foundation for the University to develop substantive cooperation programmes in education, research and innovation.
