Co-founded in 2022 by six Vietnamese universities, ICIT was first hosted by HUMG and has since been held annually. ICIT 2026 was among the academic activities marking HUMG's 60th anniversary (1966–2026), providing a platform for scholarly exchange and collaboration among research groups in the field of intelligent technologies.
In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Xuan Truong highlighted the potential applications of artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and intelligent systems in resource management, environmental monitoring, and infrastructure development. He reaffirmed HUMG's commitment to working with international partners to advance digital transformation in engineering, Earth sciences, and sustainable development.

The conference featured two keynote presentations addressing key challenges in deploying intelligent systems in real-world environments: autonomous decision-making and reliable operation in the event of system failures. Prof. Rung-Ching Chen of Chaoyang University of Technology, Taiwan, explored the evolution from on-device AI processing towards autonomous AI systems, highlighting applications in intelligent transportation. Prof. Nguyen Xuan Mung of Sejong University presented research on fault-tolerant control for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and the use of deep learning to assess storm-related structural damage through image analysis.

The conference featured 41 technical presentations delivered both in person and online. Four papers involving HUMG researchers addressed LiDAR-based UAV navigation in GPS-denied environments, secure UAV communications, three-dimensional reconstruction of structures from point-cloud data, and GeoAI applications in sustainable tourism and forest change monitoring. Accepted papers presented at the conference will be published by Springer in the Lecture Notes on Data Engineering and Communications Technologies series.

Alongside the conference, the HUMG delegation held meetings with South Korean partners to advance cooperation in education and research. At Jeonju University, the delegation met with President Dr. Doo-Hyun Ryoo and Prof. Ryu In Pyong, Director of the Institute of International Education. Building on previous discussions, the meeting focused on advancing cooperation under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities.
Both institutions agreed to promote Korean language classes for HUMG students and introduce selected master's programmes offered by Jeonju University in semiconductors, materials engineering, and finance–accounting–information technology. They also discussed expanding faculty and student exchanges to provide further opportunities for international study and academic engagement.

The delegation subsequently met with Prof. Ji Whan Ahn, Director of the Carbon Mineralization Center at the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM). Discussions covered recent research developments and training programmes, with particular emphasis on rare earth elements and strategic minerals. The two sides also explored opportunities for cooperation in training talented engineering students at HUMG. During the visit, the delegation met Dr. Lai Quang Tuan, a HUMG alumnus from the 51st cohort of the Geology programme who is currently working at KIGAM.

As part of the visit, the delegation was received by H.E. Vu Ho, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Viet Nam to South Korea. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Xuan Truong presented HUMG's development priorities and strengths in education, scientific research, and international cooperation. Discussions focused on the Embassy's role in facilitating connections between HUMG and universities, research institutes, enterprises, and Vietnamese academic and professional communities in South Korea. Potential areas of cooperation included high-quality human resource development, technological research, advanced materials, and strategic minerals.

The visit combined academic exchange at ICIT 2026 with efforts to advance cooperation priorities established through earlier engagements. The discussions laid the groundwork for developing collaborative programmes, strengthening joint research, and expanding international learning opportunities. As HUMG celebrates its 60th anniversary, these activities reflect the University's continued commitment to expanding its international partnerships while enhancing the quality of education and its research capabilities.
